Empowering township women to become facilitators

In the townships, informal creches spring up everywhere in response to the needs of working parents who are desperate for somewhere safe to leave their babies while they are out all day earning a living.

Women who run these creches often have a great love for children, and do everything they can with very limited resources to keep the little ones safe and happy.

Fundisa Isizwe trains women like these, as well as those who are already working as teachers, so they are able to understand and implement our curriculum. The training takes one week (5 days) after which the women have a basic understanding of early childhood development and how to formalise daily activities to ensure children develop to the full – intellectually, physically, socially and emotionally.

Successful trainees are supplied with the curriculum and the necessary materials for 20 children for one year, and their progress is monitored to ensure that any questions or misunderstandings are resolved.

We are also in partnership with a company that offers distance learning for those who wish to become fully qualified in Early Childhood Development.

The cost of training is R1 500 for the full week, or R300 per day. If you would like to invest in training more teachers – whose influence could well impact on hundreds of children in the years ahead – please click here.

What they say

  • Nomsa Sofute, Mthawezulu Preschool
I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who has been part of training me on how to teach children, to develop them holistically. Now many things are clear to me. They were things that I did not understand but now I ready, happy and I commit myself to do everything that I have been trained for. Thank you very much.
  • Nonyaniso Damse, Romani Preschool
On the first day of our lesson I didn't understand but now I understand because of your encouragement. I learnt things that I don't know and I enjoyed every lesson you gave me. Because of you I know what to do and where to start. Thank you for everything you gave me. I don't know what I would do without you.
